The University has more than 40,000 students enrolled annually, making it a lively academic city. The university has been at the forefront in scientific research with contributions such as the discovery of fighting the resistance to antibacterial by Dr Siouxsie Wiles and his team using glow-worm genes in microbes.
Auckland is also rated as one of the most liveable cities in the world. It offers beaches, beautiful lush forests, and waterfront areas together with great shopping, restaurants and entertainment venues. The city offers numerous cultural and sporting events throughout the year adding to its attractiveness as a meta for university students.
Auckland is also home to the Auckland University of Technology, originally founded in 1895, having obtained university status in 2000, it is ranked among the top 550 institutions globally. This university offers both undergraduate and graduates degree programs in applied sciences, business administration, computer science and information technology, and engineering among others.
Christchurch is home to the University of Canterbury, which is the second oldest institution of higher learning in New Zealand having been established in 1873. The University of Canterbury was ranked third nationally in 2018 and 214th internationally.

Another outstanding and renowned institution that is located in Christchurch is the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. The cost of living in Christchurch is moderate and students are permitted to work part-time while studying in some study programs.
Dunedin is a city, which is rich in history and culture. Summer weather is generally mild and while winters are cool they are sunny. Dunedin is home to the oldest university in New Zealand: the University of Otago, which was established in 1869.
This University has both EQUIS and AACSB accreditations and was ranked second nationally in 2018 and 151st internationally. It houses four faculties:
